BE BRAVE - The Reviews Are In!

A reincarnated voice – Molly Bryant is a little bit Coal Miner’s daughter, a little bit Suzanne Vega and at least a dash of June Cleaver. Molly, where did you come from? Oh Molly, where have you been? Seemingly too many places, too many eras for just one young soul, but her trip around the block is our gain.  It’s her voice that is brave, comforting, carefree, and yet naturally calculated. Of the album, Be Brave, each song is its own short film with prologue and back-story, plot and dénouement, though many without an ending. It’s like when a movie reveals itself as a dream – you always want more, but you’re left with just the beginning. You’ll feel it in every song, building…mounting…escalating in tone, in strength, inside you. Molly winds you through the trite yet powerful, the suffering who are later triumphant, and the candid teetering on ridiculous. She plays each character brilliantly, but none better than “1-2”. Sure, it’s ballad-like but, uh, brave. You’ll root for her underdog, because it rhymes, because if you want to transcend, then Be Brave is your ticket – to be whatever you want to be. The feminine anthems cannot be denied; they’re whispered, then shouted, then fade, beautifully. The irreverence arrives in an “Ode to Kobes” but soon evolves into a lyrical justice returning you to the voice that’s American and doused with humor and makes you feel a little like Princess Leia or at least Carrie Fisher. Thanks, Molly B. We needed that.  - Theresa-Terry Picciotti

POST BE BRAVE BIRTHING!

Okay it's post birthing of BE BRAVE.  The dust is settling.  The T-shirts are getting refolded and organized for online sales.  Boxes are shifting all around my dining room.  Getting my house back in some kind of order.  It was so fun! What a night!  So so so many AMAZING artist friends came to celebrate and support me.  It was truly a magical evening.  At one point a girl in painted face and her friend arrived at El Chavito Lounge not knowing what they had stepped into.  They had just come from some performance piece at LACMA and were looking to have a drink.  I told them they were welcome to stay if they wanted to my little private party then they turned into LEGION! All these painted faced people started to arrive and had to be kindly asked to get out of the prime bar seats or move on out.  It was so awkward and basically my fault for inviting them in but I had no clue there were going to turn into a tribe of people.  It was kind of comical and surreal.  They looked like people from Braveheart!  Anyway, I digress.... that was just one quirky part of the evening.  The most magical thing happened for me when my good friend Olivia came up to get her CD autographed and she handed me this piece of paper.  Olivia's daughter Ava really likes my music and had drawn this for me.  In the middle of all the madness I unfolded the paper to find this.  She drew a picture of us together.  It just grabbed my freaking heart and squeezed it.  How cool is this?  I thought THIS now THIS is the golden nugget of this night.  This is my beautiful reward for being brave and singing my songs.  I affected this little 6 year old girl enough for her to make me a drawing of us as queens together!!!!  I felt kind of high/elated like I won a prize.  Well, it was a PRIZE for me.  It was a sign to me that singing and writing these songs is good... it's right and this piece of paper encourages me to keep going.  So it's up on my fridge and thought I'd post on my internet/blog "fridge" here as well.

I hope you all get a chance to listen to the new album.  I'm so proud of this.  John Spiker the producer has just made an amazing album.  We had so much fun making this and it was so fun for us to sing some of my songs live and together for the first time EVER.  John and I will be doing some gigs together in 2011 to support BE BRAVE.  I'll keep you posted on FB and also mollybryantmusic.com.  Hey BE BRAVE up at iTUNES as of yesterday.  Go check out some samples or listen to the whole album in my store/bandcamp.

OH AND P.S. My awesome friend Jack Black gave me a shout out on FB
how cool is that.  HATS OFF JACK!  You RULE!

EVE OF RELEASE

Well, it's 2 days until my next album BE BRAVE is released and I'm feeling pretty excited and scared and awesome all at once.  Just got back from a sunrise hike with my buddy Kyle.  Wow.  Hiking up the mountain in the dark.  Got to the top of the hill.  Still Dark.  Light just showing.  Stars in the sky.  Looking up I felt so grateful to be there.  Then bam ....Shooting Star!!!!  Kyle didn't see it.  It was just for me!!!  I probably can count the shooting stars I've seen in LA on one hand.  WOW!  It relaxed me and told me "Molly it's all good, it's all magic! Enjoy!"

So I'm heading into this thing with eyes and heart wide open.  That crazy Creed song just went thru my brain. "WITH ARMS WIDE OPEN!" Haha.  All I know is, it has been such a blast to make this 2nd album. From soup to nuts.  Bob's super love and support and encouragement to take my songs and jump off the diving board.  John Spiker!!!! Man oh man oh man oh man.  I just can't say enough about this super talented awesome human being. What a great guy and great producer! What he has done with my songs is just mind-blowing.  He is the mastermind behind BE BRAVE.  He played a million instruments, sang harmonies alongside me, rallied and found all our guest artists.  Recorded everything, mixed everything.  The guy is a genius.  Seriously I thank Kyle for introducing me to Spiker.  We had so much fun creating this.   Kelly Johnston appearing magically to help with artwork/webdesign.  Wait til you see.  So beautiful! My buddy John Konesky giving me advice left and right on the how-to's of getting VINYL pressed and a bunch of other things I had no clue about.  I'm just grateful for all these amazing talented people.  And most of all I'm grateful to be able to sing and share my very own songs with all of you.  Hope you get a copy and listen to BE BRAVE. It's going to be up at the store NOV 7th www.mollybryantmusic.com  as well as www.cdbaby.com and itunes and rhapsody and all that by next week.  If you like what you hear spread the word!
Here's to new beginnings and creating!

Let's BE BRAVE!!!! xoxo mollyb
